UPSC Civil Services Exam Pattern

The UPSC exam pattern consist of three stages which includes the Prelims exam, Mains Exam, and Interview. Each phase evaluates different skills, knowledge domains, and aptitudes, ensuring that candidates possess a well-rounded profile for effective public service.

Stage 1-PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

UPSC Civil Services Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each

Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration.

The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

Only those candidates who secure at least declared cut off in paper I and 33% in paper II will be allowed to appear for the mains examination.

Stage 2-MAINS EXAMAMINATION:

The UPSC Civil Services exam pattern for the Mains stage consists of 9 papers. all of the papers consist of descriptive answer type questions. 

All of the mains papers except for the language papers A and B are of a merit ranking nature. Paper A and B are of qualifying nature and candidates must score at least 25% in each for the marks from their Paper I – Paper VII to be given weightage.

Stage 3- INTERVIEW(Personality Test)

This is the final stage of the exam after which result will declare. The marks of interview are counted with mains exams for merit ranking. The interview is taken by the UPSC board. They assess the candidate’s suitability for a civil services and associated responsibilities. The board evaluate the candidates mental and social traits, their intellectual qualities, awareness about current events, balance of judgment, and moral integrity.

Engineering Services Exam Pattern

Stage-I(Preliminary) Examination :-

• Minimum Qualifying Marks for each Paper will be at the discretion of the commission.
• Only those candidates qualifying at this Stage are permitted to appear for Stage – II examination.

Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional Papers)

Total marks including prelims and mains are 1100. Only those candidates qualifying at this stage (i.e. Stage – I + Stage – II) are selected for Stage – III which is the Personality Test (Interview)

Stage-III: Personality Test-200 Marks

The personality test for Engineering Services is an interview which assesses the candidate’s suitability for a career in public service by a board of unbiased observers. The interview also assess social traits and interest in current affairs. Qualities judged include mental alertness, critical ability, clear and logical exposition, judgment, variety and depth of interests, social cohesion and leadership, and intellectual and moral integrity

Exam Pattern for the Indian Statistical Service exam(ISSE)

The exam pattern for the Indian Statistical Service exam(ISSE) involves two stages: stage I – written exam and stage II – Interview process. 

Stage I: Written Exam for the Indian Statistical Service examination(ISSE)

Statistics I & II will be of Objective Type Questions (80 questions with maximum marks of 200 in each paper) to be attempted in 120 minutes.

Statistics III and IV will be of Descriptive Type having Short Answer/ Small Problems Questions (50%) and Long Answer and Comprehension problem questions (50%). At least one Short Answer and One Long Answer Question from each section is compulsory.

In Statistics-IV, equal number of questions i.e. 50% weightage from all the sub-sections below and candidates have to choose any two sub-sections and answer.

Stage II: Interview / Personality Test

Candidates who qualify the examination will be called for a personal interview. The total marks for Interview is 200. The interview assesses candidates’ subject knowledge, logical reasoning, leadership qualities and overall personality. Final selection is based on the combined marks of the written exam (1000 Marks) and the Interview (200 Marks).

Exam Pattern for SSC-CGL Exam

The SSC-CGL Exam held in two stages: Tier-1 and Tier-2. SSC-CGL Tier 1 Exam will be compulsory for all candidates. For the SSC-CGL Tier 2 Exam, there will be Paper 1, 2, and 3, whereas Paper I is Compulsory for all posts, Paper II is for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Paper III is for candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer. 

The candidates must note that the SSC-CGL Tier 1 is qualifying in nature and Tier 2 is scoring in nature. The marks scored in SSC-CGL Tier 2 will be considered for final selection for the various post announced through the SSC-CGL Exam.

SSC-CGL Tier I Exam Pattern

A Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

Tier I is a qualifying exam. The marks obtained in this tier are not considered for the final selection.

SSC-CGL Tier II Exam Pattern

Paper I:

There are two session in tier 2 exam Paper I

Paper 2

For candidates applying for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade II posts

Paper I is compulsory for all candidates. Paper II is only for candidates applying for JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade II posts.

SSC MTS EXAM PATTERN

Stage I:

The SSC MTS exam is conducted in two sessions (Paper I). Here’s a breakdown of the revised pattern:

Note: There is no negative marking in Session-I, but Session-II has a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer.

SSC CHSL EXAM PATTERN

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern:

There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern

The selection of candidates for SSC Stenographer Grade C and D  posts involves two stages. Stage I is based on a computer-based test followed by Stage II a skill test. The candidates who qualify for the computer-based examination get shortlisted for the Skill Test. Those candidates who pass both stages successfully are finally selected for the released vacant posts. 

Stage I : Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer.

Stage II; Skill Test in SSC Stenographer

Candidates who qualify for the CBT exam are shortlisted for the Skill Test in Stenography. The skill test includes a dictation test and a transcription test. Details for the skill test are mentioned here below

Dictation test

You will be given a dictation passage of 10 minutes in English or Hindi.

Transcription test

In this, candidates will be given a matter to be transcribed on a computer as per the time duration mentioned here.

SSC JE EXAM PATTERN

The selection process for SSC JE includes two main stages:

Paper-I (Computer-Based Test) – Objective Type

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer.

Paper-II (Descriptive Type) – Written Examination

• Paper-II is descriptive and tests in-depth knowledge of the chosen discipline.
• Evaluation of Paper-II happens only after clearing Paper-I.
